After-market upgrades

Six car-tuners are selling souped-up luxury cars

Germany's VATH has become the latest car-tuning firm to enter the Thai market via TSL Auto Corporation.

Of all the car modifiers at this year's Motor Expo, VATH has the widest offerings on show including four Mercedes-Benzes with both performance and cosmetic upgrades available. They include the CLS250 CDI coupe-style saloon, SLK250 roadster, E200 Coupe and C180 Coupe.

Carlsson, represented in Thailand by BRG, is also highlighting the two-door C180 with a variety of styling options. Performance upgrades include a 45hp boost for the regular 156hp 1.8-litre petrol-turbo engine. Power goes up by another 8hp with a specially tuned exhaust. The whole car costs 3.99 million baht.

Don't trust any of these tuning done in Thailand. Many have crank up the tuning to unsafe levels which the Thai technicians don't take into consideration the safety and balance of the entire system. They focus merely on performance gain instead of reliability.

I've known at least 3 cars with blown engines and the Thai tuning firms are denying the warranty they offer claiming the drivers abused the car on their own. Many of these tuned cars are also suffering reliability issues.
