Thai civil justice at bottom end globally

Thailand ranks near the bottom, at 80th among 97 countries assessed for delivering effective civil justice but the country shows strengths in control of crime and criminal justice, according to the World Justice Project's Rule of Law Index 2012 report.

Released this week in Washington D.C., the report ranks countries across eight areas impacting on the rule of law: limits on government power, corruption, security, fundamental rights, open government, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice. The report compiles results of interviews with 97,000 members of the general public and more than 2,500 experts in 97 countries.

Lets not say only the rich have connections, I know low - middle income who have connections with the local police and can get away with petty crime or problems. My office worker was involved in a traffic accident, a motorcycle swerve and hit him on the bike, the police deem my worker at fault as he was stop on the side of the road. This is on a local two lane road where people set up stalls at the side of the road. Later they found out the police was a relative of the biker who crashed into my worker.

It is the rule of the rich,yes drugs are an easy target however they only seem to catch the mules,the Minos as they are simple targets they never seem to catch the people at he top of the pyramid.I see no room fore complacency even on drugs.

If Thailand wants to hover near the tops slot of comparative world polls (1 university in the top 500 in the world, lower than 450)( educational system that is 3 shy from the worst at 37th place out of 40)( and now civil justice near the bottom at 80th out of 97) it’s got a long way to go. But here’s the clincher; the Thai attitude is one of ‘we are too cool to be concerned’, we are Thai!! Fooy all the stupid world surveys. Maybe limbo-bar contest would be in order; “How low can you go”?

I have to say crime rate is pretty low in Thailand BUT the effectiveness of the criminal justice system is not good, it should rank at the bottom as well. People with influence can get away with anything, the criminal justice system only applies to people who don't have the connections.

And in Thailand, many many people have connections.
