7 killed, 3 hurt in Korat van crash

Seven people were killed and three others injured when their van slammed into a parked ten-wheel truck in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Chok Chai district early Saturday morning.

Pol Lt Kriangsak Chaisan, duty officer at the Chokechai police station, said the accident occurred on the Sikiew-Chok Chai road at Ban Nong Phai in tambon Chok Chai at about 4.50am.

He led a team of police to inspect the scene and found seven bodies lying dead, both inside the wrecked passenger van and on the road.

@ marnops: "Maybe the driver fall asleep because he didn't saw (see) the parked truck." I think you meant to say, "Maybe the driver failed to see the parked truck." BRRMBOB makes a valid point. Safety procedures, including reflective materials and properly functioning rear lighting, are virtually nonexistent in the "professional" drivers' community. It is way past time for this to be corrected.

I've seen people killed hitting large trucks parked on the shoulder here before. I'll bet this truck had no reflective materials and was parked too close to the roadway itself. If the truck was broke down a reflective warning sign or flares could have saved lives.

Maybe the driver fall asleep because he didn't saw the parked truck. The accident can be avoided if he is attentive. Pity for the injured & RIP for the departed. Be extra careful drivers.

12000 Dead and 1.5 million injured in 1 year is not enough to start invest in more security...better streets, better signals,ESP and more airbags in the cars, more alkohol test, red light check, speed check and most importent, better driver tests.but this all costs money and thats why,it will never get better.only worse...amazing thailand...555

The amount of people who die in road accidents here when they are on the way to make merit. RIP the victims.
