Now into their 45th year of activities, the National Museum Volunteers (NMV) are having a get-together to catch up with old friends and meet newcomers who share their love of the rich history, art and culture of Thailand and the region.
Set for Oct 1, from 9am to noon, at the Dusit Thani Hotel, this annual reception is also the time when current members welcome recent arrivals in Bangkok by introducing them to the NMV and its ever-evolving platform of cultural and educational pursuits.
The reception presents the ideal opportunity to become acquainted with the wealth of activities the NMV has to offer, be it excursions, study groups, lectures or guiding workshops _ at which many members choose to train as museum guides. Through these activities members gain an appreciation for, and invaluable insights into, the region's treasures from a host of art historians and scholars who are eager to share their knowledge.
Membership is open to people of all nationalities, all of whom are welcome to join the NMV for coffee and snacks on Tuesday. A fascinating talk on "Thai Traditional Weddings" will be delivered by MR Chakrarot Chitrabongs, the NMV's patron, and with this lecture the NMV shall be introducing its theme for the upcoming year: Thai traditions and festivals. There is no charge for attending the reception.
