Industry opposes proposed limit on digital TV licences

Broadcasters do not agree with the regulator's plan to limit their bids to secure digital TV licences and have suggested it come up with measures to help small operators get into the business.

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has agreed in principle not to support a monopoly in the industry. Each broadcaster will be allowed a maximum of two or three digital TV licences.

It believes this condition will allow small broadcasters to join the bidding for licences.

The NBTC made a total mess of the last auction involving 3G.It looks like making the same botch up again with this one.Sealed bids for each channel with no restrictions on ownership.Back to supply and demand. That will give the small operators a fighting chance.I doubt they will want to collude with the big boys.
