Ratch set to start Laos power project

Construction to take 5 years after deal signed

SET-listed Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Plc (RATCH) aims to start construction of the Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy hydroelectric power project in Laos this quarter.

Xe-Pian Xe-Namnoy Power Co (PNPC) signed a 27-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) in Vientiane on Wednesday. Located in Champasak province, the 32-billion-baht hydroelectric project will have a capacity of 410 megawatts, of which 90% will be supplied to Egat and the rest to the Lao power system.

Ratch, Thailand's largest private power producer, holds 25% of the project, while other partners are SK Engineering and Construction, Korea Western Power and Lao Holding State.
