The future of Thailand's biggest private sector organisation, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), is in limbo as the federation now has two chairmen, and both sides claim legitimacy in their position.

FTI chairman Payungsak Chartsutthipol insisted on Tuesday that he remains in charge, despite a vote by members to replace him at a meeting on Monday.

The FTI's scheduled monthly meeting on Monday at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre was attended by 182 of the total 348 committee members, and 139 voted to remove Mr Payungsak from the post of the chairman. They cited his failure to insist the government delay the scheduled minimum daily wage hike to 300 baht nationwide on Jan 1.

There’s always the Tourist Authority of Thailand’s version of a harmonious nation that follows the Buddhist philosophy, precepts and middle path of harmony and compromise. And then there is the more accurate ugly constant conflict, corruption and fighting for power, greed and control with no concern for the common folks. The TAT image is fading fast to the criminal underbelly with only a few “leaders” who seem to care.

Maybe I'm wrong, but is the picture of the man on the right not Supoj Saplom, of millions-in trash bags-robbed-from-his-house-fame? Or is he just related?

Not the first time this sort of charade has taken place, and the question remains, what are the political loyalties behind this split. It is, afterall, hinging on the Govt's minimum wage hike.
