TOKYO - The number of overseas visitors hit a record high in July due in part to relaxed visa requirements for Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, the government said Wednesday.

About 1 million people travelled to Japan last month, topping the previous record of 923,000 in April, the Japan National Tourism Organisation said.
