the German governance decided to make changes to the German immigration law. Those changes also have influence on marriages between spouses of two nations. This leads to discussions in Germany, there are in the special case also discussions in one German web-board where several spouses of Thai women meet. The main points of the amendment are:
(1.) Before relocating to Germany an alien spouse has to proof basic skills in German language
(2.) When a fiancé moves to Germany in order to marry a German he also has to proof basic skills in German language
(3.) The proof of basic skills of German language has to be done by passing the ‘A1 Language test’, the first level of the six skill levels described in the Common European Framework for Languages
(4.) Excluded from the proof of language skills are high qualified people, who have to prove a university exam
(5.) Excluded from this are people who cannot learn foreign languages because of disablement. They have to proof their disablement instead
Two contrarian main arguments in the discussion that I attended are
- The law is limiting individual liberty in an unacceptable way
- Foreign spouses need the protection offered by the law, the law fulfils those needs
I would hereby like to ask you for your kind opinion.
Maybe you should have at look at Thai immigration law and see what it offers aspiring western immigrants.
In comparison the new German laws and not so disimilar to Australias, where new imigrants need to pass a basic english language test in order to help them intergrate.
Thousands take this test weekly. As they all know the POT of GOLD that is waiting for them if they pass the test. TRUE LIBERTY.
Once they achieve PR status they are free to run a business, work in any profeession and actually buy property outright.
Can you believe it. They actually get security. Thais would be laughing to themselves over this one "stupid farungs"
All these rights are restricted to aspiring western immigrants in Thailand as well as many other Asian countries.
This is the xenophobic reality created by governing elites who spread propaganda about unwelcome western influence only to enslave their indigenous populations into servitude.
Thiis the bare reality of xenophobic immigration laws in Asia. It's racist and highly discrimintory.
Asia has to recognise that the west also holds soverignty and national values close to their heart, we are'nt just cultureless ATM machines that are used to keep the money flowing back home as many Asians assume. We have thousands of years of culture too. We not only cherish it but are generous enough to want to share it with ALIENS.
It frustrates me no end that aspiring Asian imigrants complain about the difficulty to imigrate to the west whilst their home countries go out of their way to discourage western immigration based purely on propaghanda of loosing culture and soverignty and yet they continue to buy and wear the face value of the west. It's a massive contridiction that gets little media exposure.
The west encourages intergration not segregation as is the case in many Asian nations.
If an aspiring immigrant is not willing to intergrate into their new homeland what is their justification for wanting to go there in the first place.
This question needs to be asked.
I for one congratulate Germany for tightening it's laws as now you will see less immigration from those who would otherwise just want to take advantage of the 'monetary 'opportunities offered in a true free market economy , not to mention the actual LIBERTY they receive once they have achieved their so sought after PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS.
They know the game it's just how it's played that matters most. Thailand changes it's immigration laws constantly with little or no reguard for westerners' liberty as there is little reguard for western culture based on the notion that we do not have any culture.
This I've heard often enough..
So I would'nt be too harsh on Germany after all it has it's national soverignty to look out for.
I must see the first of this in Thailand, where an ALIEN has no rights at all, or very few indeed (maybe they cannot shoot us).
I do agree with you that Thailand has very unfair laws against foreigners. I just fail to see how countries like Oz, Switzerland, Denmark and Germany will gain from making the same mistakes as Thailand in the long run.
I think you strike back at Thais here because you feel offended by the way Thailand treat foreigners. The major problem in the western countries is that the growth in population either has stagnated or decreased. The populations of western countries are getting older and older. Who are going to pay tax and take care of YOU, when you and all your blonde countrymen are sitting in retirement homes?
Nobody except the immigrants.
Do not forget that Germany might have won the WW-2 if they had not chased away or killed their resourceful “foreigners” (like Oppenheimer and Einstein) in 1933-1945.
Western countries needs immigrants and in my opinion and experience most immigrants to western countries integrate better than most gray panthers integrate in Thailand.
Unlike westerners immigrating to Thailand they even learn to speak German, English, French etc pretty fast. Most of them also pay tax to their adopted countries.
Quite unlike westerners retiring in Thailand do.
If people continue to vote for the right wingers like you most western countries will become giant retirement homes without anyone to finance them only twenty years from now.
Thailand also needs skilled immigrants not on such a large scale as the west but on a whole they do need to open up to what is really out there.
It also could do with liberalising it's current investment market which discourages small business investment which many aspiring ex-pat western immigrants are denied from having control over.
Many of these ex-pats are living in the North East which is crying out for investment but has been deliberately denied as the elite need the vast amount of under educated cheap labor that comes from these regions. This seems to be the only reason I can see for the enforcement of such tough immigration and investment laws that discriminate the not so wealthy aspiring ex-pat married to a Thai nationals. The laws seem to be enforced so as to suppress
spheres of influence that could benefit the poor and in many respects keep them closer to their families instead of their annual mass exodus which breaks up families.
Another important fact is that in terms of assimilation and intergration it takes a strong patient westerner to actually relocate to Thailand as the network support is not their as it is in the west for Thai nationals. Thai nationals in the west have their freedom, independence and strong community support. They even have their own independant newspapers something that is denied to western ex-pats.
Thailands' xenophobic investment and immigration laws are implemented for a reason and it's not for the safeguarding of it's soverignty, that's just convienient propaganda it goes deeper than that.
Offering equal rights to western expats married to Thai nationals allows them the security that is given to Thai nationals in the west. Why are they treated differently when Thailand at present suppresses and oppresses the majority of it's underclasses. The very people many western ex-pats are married and have families with and are trying desperately to maintain a sense of security that is constantly changing.
Do not think I disagree with you.
Under quite a lot of threads in this very forum I have expressed my opinions of the apartheid-laws of Thailand. Many times I have heard Thai nationals crying out about “racism” in Denmark when Thai-citizens are thrown out of Denmark or refused re-entry to the Danish kingdom after a one-year holyday in Thailand.
I even agree that it might be time for many Thais to taste their own medicine.
I just fail to see the use for, or intelligence of, such practice. I simply do not understand why western countries or business-life should retard to the same level of Thailand in this matter. Most civilized countries needs immigrants in order to recruit skilled labor and secure industrial development. Thais would most certainly gain from letting western entrepreneurs into their country but there are none responsible politicians in Thailand to put this question on their political agenda.
Instead they rely on hiring foreign experts every time they need to build an airport or a sub-way. In other words; Thais can afford to buy the fish but they do not seem to understand that what they really need is the hook.
My prediction is that China will pick up much, much, faster than Thailand due to their more realistic view on these matters. Personally I realized that there is no future for a person like myself in Thailand until I become a grey panther. Then there may be more lucrative places to retire.
If not owned outright.
The old Thai elite seems to think they have endless time to modernise these anti-foreigner laws, enacted more than forty years ago by Thailand's then military dictators in a very different economic and political world .
The brutal reality for the Thai elite is :
they have very little time.
China's vastly larger economy is growing two to three times faster than Thailand's - which is now the slowest economy in East Asia.
If Thailand does n't modernise soon - including giving farang married to Thais greater security for their investments, as a counter-weight to Chinese influence - there won't be an independent Thailand. It will be a Chinese colony.
It's a matter of sharing and opening up to competition in the kingdom.
At present Thai business is tightly controlled by monopolies held by the elite whose influences are fely through all institutions within the kingdom.
The vast amount of nationalist propaganda originates from them. They are are believed and respected as they have used and manipulated the Thai cultural notion of respect for ones elders and those in power to their advantage.
Proof of this can be seen in the reality that many of the elites children are educated abroad but on return to Thailand can not implement the knowledge they have learnt.
It seems that the diploma or degree achieved is just a FACE gaining experience.
Positive western spheres of influence especially those pertaining to healthy regulated small business investment in the kingdom are denied as they ultimately would create a shift in the very true nature of aquiring skills, knowledge and alternative practices of not only doing business but also the opportunity to 'think outside the square'.
This has for so long been denied to the vast majority of poor.
Thais in the west understand 'self determination' because the laws in multi-cultural modern democracies give them the freedom to participate on an equal footing if they are willing to participate in the mainstream. They are not denied their cultural heritage actually the opposite it is encouraged so as to build collective community spirit. Thais abroad know this only too well and take full advantage of it.
Wealthy Thais are in the majority of immigrants to the west. It's just so ironic that they endorse two sets of rules.
If Thai families in the west were refused the right of self-determination I assure you they would never consider coming here to live and work.
Why should they.
It just goes to show you that Thais still believe in the nationalistic propaganda that promotes the xenophobic idea that Thailand is for Thais alone.
Well then why can't Denmark be their for the Danes.
If only a Thai could give me a rational response...!!!
