Book fair begins tomorrow
Read anytime, read everywhere
The 16th Book Expo Thailand, better known simply as "the book fair", begins tomorrow (Wednesday) at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. It will be open daily until October 16 from 10am-9pm.
Held under the theme of "Read Anytime, Read Everywhere" by the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (Pubat), the expo aims to cultivate a lifetime reading habit among Thais.
To encourage people to read anytime and everywhere, the exhibition zone introduces books and useful advice for "reading on the go" such as reading on the plane, bus, or train, as well as "reading while travelling".
The book fair is a big place, very crowded on weekends, and confusing to many who don't make a habit of buying books. With around 900 booths from 424 publishers, it will take some planning to get the most benefit.
You might want to consider attending some of the special activities during the fair.
You will have the opportunity to meet local and international writers including Taiwanese astrologer Wu Zhang Yi and China's top anti-social fiction writer Yu Hua, as well as Thai popular writers like New Klom, Noom Muang Chan and Anek Navigamoon.
Other activities include an exhibition by the Royal Project Foundation, a print and illustration exhibition, a book repair exhibition, stage performances and seminars.
Facebook fans can get lots of information on the fair at the special fanpage: http://www.facebook.com/bookthai. It provides updates on events, promotions, exhibitions, new books and useful advice on reading. And, of course, since it is Facebook, you can ask questions and add your own ideas.
