BANGKOK - A large sign drawing attention to alleged corruption in the construction of police stations nationwide has gone up near the Royal Thai Police Headquarters in Pathum Wan district of Bangkok.
Maverick politician Chuwit Kamolvisit says the sign is one of 2,000 that a team from his Rak Thailand Party plans to erect around the capital.
The message on the sign near the police headquarters says: "396 police station projects with a budget of 5.848 billion baht. Don't let corruption continue". It is the 1,521st sign to go up, according to Mr Chuwit.
The 2,000 posters of different sizes will not be taken down until the culprit in the construction scandal is identified, he said.
A police panel probing the allegations of the fraud said on Thursday that its initial investigation had found no evidence of corruption.
The Department of Special Investigation has also been looking into the award of the huge construction contract to a single company, Chiang Mai-based PCC Development and Construction. Most of the work remains unfinished nearly three years after the contract was awarded.
Mr Chuwit questioned the haste of the Royal Thai Police panel's investigation, and asked why its conclusion did not match that of the DSI.
He also claimed that municipal officers had been tearing down some of his posters, but said this would not keep him from his goal of exposing the scandal.
