Real monkey business

This is a lovely little kiosk run by lovely little women, and sometimes frequented by lovely little people with an after-school sweet-toothed craving. ChimpChimp Crepes & Co, on the ground level of Le Chateau Mansion in Soi Ekamai 12 next to Ekamai International School, is an enchanting elfin cabin (it would've been perfect were it set by the woods, but alas...) serving warm crepes, silky gelato, crunchy waffles, homemade ice-cream and hot and cold drinks, smoothies and coffee, all in a snug open-air corner of sofas and benches.
It's the soft crepe, warm from the oven, that does the trick, in a very palatable mix with the ice cream.
The house also has a selection of cakes in a cup _ another way to saying cupcakes _ and the star is the chocolate macademia flavour, which haunts you into the night like a childhood memory. The crepe is priced at 65 baht, plus 49 baht for an ice cream.
Another offering I dig is the waffles, which come in a choice of vanilla and chocolate (95 baht, plus 49 for an ice cream). This simple menu can be satisfyingly filling, and impressive in its simplicity, and the good thing is you can tell Nudee to make it soft and sweet, or crunchy and munchy. It goes down well with a glass of date fruit juice (35 baht), a refreshing and slightly exotic choice. Because ChimpChimp sits next to a school, it has a lot of young customers in the afternoon _ though late into the evening, it's a perfect place to _ what's that term they use these days? _ "chill". The best thing is the sweets, of course, but also the atmosphere of childlike delight, of adults finding the joy in little things. Tuck in.
ChimpChimp Crepes & Co, ground level, Le Chateau Mansion, Ekamai Soi 12 (Pridi Banomyong Soi 31). Open daily from 2pm to 9.30pm. The shop also offers gift hampers.
