It seems unlikely we would ever get economics lessons from a stage show, but this is what will happen in Transaction, a contemporary dance performance opening at Democrazy Theatre Studio on Aug 15.
Because every single life has its own needs, the process of transaction arises and has been developed into a complex economics system. Transaction is concerned with economics inspired by the exchange of money within today's capitalist society.
The interactive performance is based on the notion that we are all playing a part in influencing each other financially. Every financial choice we have made _ be it exchange, buying, selling, investing, paying, bargaining or even saving _ always has an effect on other people's lives.
And in today's society, it seems that people just can't get enough of what they want. The problem goes as far as an increasing number of people talking about "sufficient economy". This leads to the question: "How much is enough?".
Directed by Thanapol Virulhakul, Transaction aims to take the economics system used in our Thai capitalist society into the theatre so audiences can clearly see the process of monetary exchange. They are also encouraged to interact in the process of transaction with the eight performers on stage.
The show is directed by Thanapol Virulhakul, a performer, dancer, choreographer, and director. He was one of the artists chosen to participate in the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts exchange programme.
His last production "Post-Show Talk with Pina Bausch" received rave reviews from the audiences and critics alike.
