Carlos Izcaray will conduct the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra with Argentinian bandoneonist Rodolfo Mederos during ‘The Best of Tango Argentina’ concert at Thailand Cultural Centre on Aug 17 at 8pm.
Rodolfo Mederos, once a principal protege of tango maestro Astor Piazzolla, will perform with the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
"The Best of Tango Argentina" concert takes place at the Thailand Cultural Centre on Aug 17 at 8pm.
Mederos has for decades been one of finest exponents of tango, with a virtuoso career on the bandoneon, a concertina-like keyboard instrument and a reputation based on his prolific oeuvre of compositions as well as interpretations of the existing repertoire.
This concert will chart the history of the popular and infectious musical style, and reflect the reality that dancing is equally a part of its tradition.
The production will feature vibrant choreographed routines by two highly regarded teachers from the school Tango Argentina, Julieta Biscione and Roberto Castillo.
They are collaborating with the musicians to present a rare audio/visual treat which is expected to be eagerly anticipated.
Starting with so-called Old Guard tangos from a century ago _ La biblioteca, El cabure, El portenito _ the works of Carlos Gardel will then feature the famous Por una cabeza (as danced by Al Pacino in Scent Of A Woman), leading to Middle Guard tangos and eccentric, seminal compositions by Piazzolla. His haunting tune Oblivion will point to one of the concert's highlights, a showcase of the creations of Mederos himself, culminating with El hombre que suena.
Prize-winning Venezuelan conductor Carlos Izcaray _ a product of the El Sistema music education project _ will steer the BSO through the show, which will probe the extremes of the human soul from brooding sadness and agony to ecstatic happiness.
Izcaray is noted for his keen interest in promoting new and rarely performed works.
The more contemporary and complicated tango expressions in this event will therefore showcase those particular talents.
