Nikorn Saetang’s solo play Non Mai Lub (Insomnia ) will make a comeback next month.
Actor and director Nikorn Saetang is bringing back to the stage his famous solo performance, Insomnia, to show why it's still so difficult for some of us to get to sleep.
Non Mai Lub (Insomnia) tells the story of a humble office man, Chainarong, who has been beleaguered with so many problems _ from work and life _ that he can't get himself to sleep at night.
Three rounds of the show will be staged at Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts at 7.30pm on Sept 6-7, plus a 2pm matinee on Sept 7. The show debuted in Bangkok and Chiang Mai in 2002, not long after the Tom Yum Kung crisis, and reflected how ordinary people have been affected by the financial collapse. More than 20 shows had been staged locally and internationally since.
It's been 11 years so far, but the nightmares seem to linger. The 2013 Silpathorn artist Nikorn decided to bring Chainarong back to stage in the hope that his troubles will inspire a new generation to ponder life and today's financial, social and political instability.
Of course, Nikorn will fill the same role of lead actor, director and also scriptwriter. The performance will be in Thai with English subtitles, and there will be a discussion after the show.
Tickets cost 500 baht (200 baht for students) inclusive of a chance to attend his two-day workshop on "How to create your solo", which is set for Sept 3-4 from 6pm to 8pm, with limited seats. Group tickets of up to 10 students will include Nikorn's new playwright book. Sodsai Pantoomkomol Centre for Dramatic Arts is located in the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building at Chulalongkorn University.
