The Mall Japan Discovery 2013 fair is on from tomorrow to Sept 18.
You can get the taste and feel of Japan without the burden of a flight to the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Mall Japan Discovery 2013 fair will return to The Mall Bang Kapi from tomorrow to Sept 18.
Organised for the second year by Thai Life Assurance, Japan Foundation Bangkok and Japan National Organisation, the fair is set in an Asakusa temple-themed atmosphere, making it a good spot to take photos.
The mall's look will be based on Sensoji, one of the oldest and most important Buddhist temples in Tokyo and a popular tourist attraction among Thais and foreigners who go there to pay homage to the gold goddess of mercy, Kannon.
Throughout the 12 days, visitors will get to taste the authentic Japanese flavours of imported menu items from more than 30 restaurants. They include takoyaki from Gindaco, kushiyaki or skewered, grilled meat and marinade from Tantan Izakaya Buffet, and Matsuzaka beef from Nagoya. There will also be many traditional local desserts to cap off the meal. Lining up to entertain visitors will be two traditional performances of Omatsuri dance and taiko, Japan's national drum, calligraphy and origami workshops.
A cosplay action show, "Knight in the Nightmare", will feature more than 50 performers. This will also be a chance to shop for selected premium souvenirs.
These will include Japanese-licensed dolls from Line Plugly Shop and Dream Express, cosmetics from Tsuruha and Moritomo, vinegar from Japan Plus, bedding sets from Kenko Shop and much more.
The fair runs from 10.30am to 9.30pm at the Event Hall, ground floor. The Mall Bang Kapi is on Ramkhamhaeng Road. Call 02-310-1021 or 02-310-1316.
