Held to mark the friendship between Italy and Thailand that has lasted 145 years, the "Galileo Chini the Jewels of Decorations" exhibition will feature 26 liberty-style sculptures from the Thermae Berzieri of Salsomaggiore, one of the most famous luxury spring-water spas in Europe.
The showcase marks the first time these Chini creations will be displayed outside their homeland. The exhibition will be held at the Lifestyle Hall, 2nd floor of Siam Paragon from Monday to Sept 29.
The sculptures - most of them made from stone - are backup pieces created in the early 1920s and discovered by chance a few years ago in the spa's basement. Even though they are more than 90 years old, they are still in pristine condition.
The sculptures were designed by Chini and realised by the craftsmen from Borgo San Lorenzo, the company founded by Chini and his cousin Chino Chini near Florence that produces the high quality artworks.
As a tribute to Chini, the exhibition will also feature jewellery designed by Casato, a leading Italian jewellery brand, with inspiration from a decoration at the spa. The silver, gold and diamond sets consist of rings, pendants and earrings.
The opening is on Monday at 6pm and will be presided over by Italian Ambassador to Thailand Michelangelo Pipan. Vieri Chini, a grandson of Chini's who in his 80s and a designer in charge of the production of artworks at Borgo San Lorenzo in Florence, will also join the event.
