Leo Phillips, Tasana Nagavajara and the SSMS String Orchestra will perform at Siam Society on Oct 30 at 7pm.
Silpakorn University's Faculty of Music presents a classical concert featuring masterpieces by two of Italy's greatest composers _ Antonio Vivaldi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at three venues on the last week of this month.
The "Vivaldi and Mozart" concert will be performed by the SSMS String Orchestra under the baton of Leo Phillips, with Tasana Nagavajara on violin. It will be held at Dusit Thani Hua Hin on Oct 26 at 6pm, then Siam Bayshore Resort Pattaya on Oct 28 at 7pm, and Siam Society in Bangkok on Oct 30 at 7pm.
The programme will feature Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and Mozart's Divertimenti For Strings, K 136 and K 137.
The Four Seasons is one of the greatest hits in classical music. The 40-minute piece is four violin concertos assembled as one composition. Each concerto, set to a corresponding sonnet, depicts a different season.
Divertimenti For Strings also contains some of the world's best-loved classical tunes. The Italian word "divertimento" means "amusement". In Mozart's day a divertimento would be played as background music at parties, such as marriage feasts, dinner banquets and garden parties.
The string orchestra of Silpakorn Summer Music School (SSMS) comprises outstanding alumni from the school, many of whom have performed in a major musical centre such as Carnegie Hall, New York, and Cadogan Hall, London, among others. It is directed by Leo Phillips, a distinguished British violinist and conductor.
Tasana, who will perform with the orchestra in the upcoming concert, is a professional musician who has performed the major violin concerti with Thailand's leading orchestras. He has served as deputy dean and director of the school since its founding in 2005.
Tickets cost 300 baht for the Oct 26 show, 500 baht (250 baht for students) for the Oct 28 show, and 400 baht (300 baht for members and 50 baht for students) for the Oct 30 show.
