The vibrancy of India was on view at Siam Paragon from Aug 15-18 with Incredible India Week, hosted jointly by the Indian embassy and the shopping mall. The event, held in the Hall of Mirrors, was held to celebrate the country's Independence Day and to mark the long-standing historical and cultural ties between India and Thailand. Cultural displays ranging from fashion and cuisine to tourism and handicrafts. Presiding over the colourful festivities was Indian ambassador to Thailand Anil Wadhwa.
The opening ceremony featured a fashion show with collections from two top Indian designers, Joy Mitra and Vikram Phadnis, who gave a contemporary twist to glamorous Indian national costumes. Both designers' works are extremely popular among Bollywood stars and have often been showcased at Indian fashion weeks.
Joy Mitra says his design philosophy is to keep his clothes simple, yet elegant and beautiful. He designed the costumes for numerous Bollywood films. The talented designer brought his latest collection to Thailand inspired by the magic of Bollywood charm in celebration of 100th anniversary of Bollywood. Digital prints of Bollywood icons such as the first lady of Bollywood cinema Devika Rani, king of romance Shahrukh Khan and Oscar-winning film-maker Satyajit Ray appear on fabric along with cameras, reels of film, lighting equipment, film slates and director's chairs.
