Back by popular demand, the "Eazy Running of the Brides" contest is a most unusual and challenging way for women to express their love for their fiances while competing to be the one to win the wedding of her dreams followed by an all-expenses-paid honeymoon abroad.
Organised by Eazy FM105.5, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, this year's race looks set to be bigger and better than the inaugural event in terms of the number of participants and the prizes up for grabs.
Competitors should already be in training and following a strict exercise regime because there is less than a month to go until the big day on Nov 30. The event will be held at Wachira Benjathas Park (Suan Rot Fai) in Bangkok's Chatuchak district and the runners, all decked out in full wedding dresses and accessories, will be making a dash for the finishing line at 3pm.
The women who make it through that initial stage will then have to compete in several other contests that test their traditional housekeeping and other skills. A total of 40 brides-to-be (double the number of finalists at last year's event) will be selected for the final race in which they will have to run alongside their future husbands. The couple who makes it across the finishing line first will be rewarded with the "ultimate wedding package" and other prizes worth a total of 1.7 million baht. The winner's booty includes formal wedding outfits for both the bride and her groom and a set of jewellery just for her, a pre-wedding photo shoot, a wedding reception at Bangkok's Dusit Thani Hotel and a honeymoon package in the Maldives. There will also be generous prize packages worth 100,000, 90,000, 60,000 and 59,000 baht for the first, second, third and fourth runners-up, respectively. The remaining 35 finalists will receive vouchers for restaurant meals and beauty spas.
