To celebrate the 145th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Belgium, the Embassy of Belgium presents a concert by pianist Wim Mertens on Oct 31.
Belgian pianist Wim Mertens will perform at Chulalongkorn University on Oct 31 at 7pm.
It will be held in the Music Hall of the Art and Culture Building, Chulalongkorn University on Phaya Thai Road, starting at 7pm.
Wim Mertens started composing music in 1980. Since then he has become known as an international recording and performing artist who has given several concerts, as a soloist and with his ensemble, all over Europe, the US and Central America, as well as in Japan and in Russia.
The 60-year-old Belgian is also a composer, countertenor vocalist, guitarist and musicologist. He plays the classical guitar and sings with a characteristically high-pitched voice, using a carefully crafted personal language.
He has more than 50 albums to his credit. Among his many popular hits are Struggle For Pleasure, Close Cover, Their Duet and Maximizing The Audience.
Mertens knows how to please his public, from mainstream music listeners to more serious aficionados, by using mesmerising minimalist techniques with a romantic twist.
The concert is by invitation only, but the Embassy of Belgium has reserved 20 tickets especially for readers of the Bangkok Post. Those who want to attend are required to email the embassy at firstname.lastname@example.org. be. Distribution will be on a first-come first-served basis.
