SLICE OF LIFE
Udomkiat Sila-ekwichit - founder/director of Christian television station CVTV - knows all too well what it means to experience the extreme highs and lows of life. For he has tasted the best money can offer and what it means to live hand to mouth. He credits being able to come out of the pit of despair to his faith, which he says has kept him grounded since his teen years.
Born in Chumphon province, he moved to Bangkok to further his education at the age of 12. A year later he became a Christian. City life was certainly not a bed of roses for a teenager from the boonies. Despite the obstacles, he persevered diligently to educate himself. After an opportunity to work in theatre fizzled out, he took a keen interest in working behind the scenes. His positive yet daring attitude towards life, coupled with his innate ability to think out of the box, worked in his favour as he began to make a name for himself in the communications industry. Udomkiat enjoyed enormous financial success, owning four businesses in media-related ventures at one stage.
Just when he felt life could not get any better, calamity struck.
