Immigration police on Thursday arrested a Malaysian man at Don Meuang Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle 120 grammes of cocaine to sell in his country.
The airport's immigration police superintendent, Pol Col Weerayot Karunyathorn, named the suspect as Tiong Chinghuo Eugene, 36.
Mr Tiong arrived at the security checkpoint on the third floor of the overseas passenger terminal and asked officials if he could go to the toilet.
Mr Tiong then quickly ran into the toilet, prompting a team of police officers to follow him, Pol Col Weerayot said.
Officers allegedly found Mr Tiong trying to flush 12 bars of cocaine into a toilet bowl. The substance was concealed in plastic bags, each bar weighing 10 grammes.
Mr Tiong allegedly confessed that he bought the drug from a Thai woman who he knew only as Ann for 270,000 baht. Ann delivered the drug to him at the airport and he intended to charge 50,000 baht for each bar when he returned to Malaysia.
The Malaysian told police he had smuggled cocaine out of Thailand several times, Pol Col Weerayot said.
An investigation is underway to find the others involved in the drug smuggling.
