We've talked about the laws relating to property ownership, and the documents that verify it. But who in the government is in charge of administering all of this?
Property issues are covered in two laws, the Land Code of 1954 and the 1954 Act Promulgating the Land Code. Section 15 of the act says the minister of the interior is in charge of administration of the act and appointing land officials. The Land Code, in Section 13, gives him or her the power to establish the provincial land offices and their branches.
Under the interior minister is the director-general of the Land Department, who is the head of all land offices in Thailand. This job is an administrative one, appointed through an internal selective process.
