Cites wraps up in Bangkok to mixed reviews

Delegates from 170 countries passed proposals upgrading protection for more than 50 species, but critics warn that loopholes allowing trade in some critically endangered species remain unclosed

The Cites conference wrapped up in Bangkok on Thursday with opinions sharply divided on what advances the meeting made to protect the planet's endangered species. What progress the host country has made in this regard was also a subject of intense debate.

Humanity's obsession.

John Scanlon, secretary-general of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites), was effusive in his assessment in his closing statements.

Yes Dao.Talk is cheap and doesn't cost .
The trade in endangered species will go on just as before .
You have to Convince the Chinese who are the biggest users and eaters of endangered species
that it's morally wrong , and to change their thinking.
What happens when you arrive at a Chinese airport with Ivory poducts or rare animals genitals ?
The same should happen as at all European Airports, confiscation and fines.
Its been Great for Bangkok all those Farangs here on a jolly spending like theres no tomorrow.
Now lets get down to some serious ways to fleece the Tourists.

Cities pointed out many things Thailand could do to clean up its act but as usual were met with some cheap lip service .How the elephant can be considered the national animal when ivory is still sold legally and elephants are shot dead even during the meeting is beyond comprehension .Tigers are speed bred and most likely inbred and sold like fruit in a market .Of course all people see is the money .Sad but normal .
