E-cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular in Thailand _ both with smokers trying to kick their tobacco addiction and young people who say it is a trendy way to get their nicotine fix.
However, the legality of selling and possessing e-cigarettes, as well as their use in public places, is a legislative nightmare which the Kingdom, along with other jurisdictions around the world, is only starting to get to grips with.
Although readily available from online distributors and sold discreetly in some shops, e-cigarettes cannot be sold legally in Thailand as they have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Therefore, the importation of e-cigarettes and the nicotine fluids is also considered illegal.
