Patient dies after reds block road

A patient suffering from a heart attack died as the ambulance he was in was delayed by traffic congestion at a red shirt rally against a yellow shirt-sponsored seminar in Ubon Ratchathani on Sunday, reports said.

About 300 supporters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) gathered in front of Sunee Grand Hotel in Muang district which was hosting a political seminar held by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD). The event was held to criticise the administration of the Pheu Thai-led government.

The group led by Chamroonsak Chantaramai used loud speakers to disrupt the seminar and deliver verbal attacks on PAD co-leaders including Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang. They also criticised the hotel management for allowing the yellow shirts to organise the event, which they said was an insult to the red shirts in the province.

Abbuba #47 & #49 makes the best case himself as to why the army needed to remove Thaksin from power, why his two consecutive proxy regimes had to be toppled and why the military will once again have to uproot this violent, subversive, disingenuous, hypocritical ochlocracy who is utterly disinterested in affording others the same rights they demand are granted unconditionally to themselves.

#49 - that you think anyone has any right to infringe on another's freedom of expression, when the UDD's alleged cause is defending such freedoms in the first place is an astounding, stupefying display of hypocrisy - even for you. If the UDD can't respect the rights of others, they resign all legitimacy and are no better than PAD you hate so much.

I'm sure the ambulance had a cardiac-defib and other equipment to treat heart-attack victims. They should also have had IV capability to inject heart medication. Since the first ambulance was supposedly blocked by demonstrators how did transferring the patient to another ambulance un-block the road? Could it be the first ambulance had mechanical problems?

again no action by the police to disperse the red mobs, yet claims the yellow shirts had no right to conduct a seminar in the province, yet the red village are being set up in all provinces and encouraged by this regime,l fear for the safety of any opposition to this regime ,you have the men in brown and ofcourse the red mobs who be preventing the freedom to express

rontorr - "The problem here is that everyone immediately blames the red-shirts for all that happens. The simple fact is that almost all demonstrations in Thailand block roads, that is what needs to change, all protests block the road, and the yellows blocked air travel. Part of the blame here belongs to the ambulance company and driver for attempting to go through an area where a protest is going on, he should have been warned by his company to take a different route."

So that makes it okay? I admit I was wrong, I thought reds would blame the man for having a heart attack, instead the first one blamed the ambulance company. No blame whatsoever for reds blacking the road. Sad.

@abbub. 'Quite a provocation'. Is Thailand a democracy or not ? Or is it a mob rule 3rd world banana republic ?

  • Discussion 51 : 24 Sep 2012 at 20.2051

abbub, sorry but I must comment on your last post! So because, as you state, but not really true, the PAD are tiny in Ubon, they are not allowed to have a meeting there? Very democratic of you!!!!

abbub d49-I want to say that I do not support the PAD especially, but if they are such a small minority as you claim, then why break into their meeting and cause all this chaos. Is it because the red shirts do not allow Thaksin non believers to voice their opposition. Unfortunately the great divisions I see in Thailand are caused mainly by Thaksin and his total determination to reclaim his money, power and own style of dictatorial rule at ANY cost to the country.

JOHN D49: "abbub d42-Just wondering why red shirts have to take it upon themselves to try and break up a meeting of PAD"

Well, first of all put this into context. The PAD, backed by the military brought down two consecutive, elected governments. The PAD are a small minority nationally. Tiny in Ubon. Then the PAD have their meeting in Ubon, a red shirt stronghold. Quite a provocation.

When it comes to disturbing others the PAD have a pretty long history of disturbing the democratic process. The anecdotes about confrontations outside the hotel with gardeners etceteras are just that, anecdotes. You know very well one article written without intentionally lying can mislead.

I do not agree this is the sort of event that gets people worked up "as if it just happened one day". The great divisions now between different groups are the direct outgrowth of the coup, and the PAD trouble that furthered the divisions and bad feelings between people. History cannot be ignored.
