The red shirts' goal for the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take jurisdiction over the 2010 clashes between security forces and red-shirt protesters may not be easily achieved, deputy justice permanent secretary Charnchao Chaiyanukit said. Speaking to KING-OUA LAOHONG, he cautioned the government against rushing into a decision to invite the ICC's authority into the country.

D3 : I agree and ICC will also find who agitated/incited the red thugs into committing unspeakable crimes against the security forces, the civilians and the country's legally elected leaders. I'm baffled that the idea of bringing in ICC came from those who will be found guilty of the most serious crimes. I believe the red thugs and their financiers will soon regret this proposal.

Article 27 of the Rome Statute, stipulates that the statute applies equally to all people without any distinction.
Everybody who can logical thinking will understand that the ICC cannot work for Thailand.
Bec. then the gov. would be in really hot water and the yellow-shirts would be highly motivated to protest.

If nothing to hide it would seem to make sense to come into line with more of the civilised world.Or are Thailand saying there laws are more just therefore better and more fitting the 21 century.I think not. The government concocted the law to suit the politicians and the rich not society in general. That is why they do not want to accept the ICC as there bench mark.

Ratifying the ICC treaty gives them the right to investigate Thaksins "War on Drugs" I support that too. Yea let them investigate the guilty soldiers, but they won't find proof that Abhisit order the soldiers to kill civilians. Death were caused by soldiers inexperience and trigger happy finger, hence generals in charge are responsible.

While 2010 may not meet the definition, Thaksin's war on drugs and the extrajudicial killings of over 2500 people does seem to match the kind of cases the tribunal would have interest in.

"The ICC's entry implies the country's justice system is faulty."

To have a fair trial by ICC is more worthy than saving a face.
