Consumer groups plan to gather a 200,000-signature petition to put pressure on legislators to speed up the passage of a bill setting up an independent body to protect consumer rights.
The move was announced yesterday in a public forum organised by the Foundation for Consumers, the Confederation of Consumer Organisations and allied networks.
The law must be passed under the current constitution. The bill is now pending deliberation by a joint parliamentary committee.
