THAI wants own terminal

A proposal by Thai Airways International (THAI) to build its own domestic terminal at Suvarnabhumi airport has puzzled the Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT).

THAI president Sorajak Kasemsuvan said the national flag carrier had earlier consulted Transport Minister Chadchat Sittipunt over its plan to rent a vacant area on the eastern side of Suvarnabhumi airport to build its own domestic terminal.

The airline said the move was to accommodate the rising number of passengers flying on THAI domestic flights.

Why, because its all about the money. The rent they pay to AOT is very high, it is cheaper to build your own terminal and even collect rents from tenants. Its a cash cow in the long run.

It's not a bad idea for THAI to have its very own terminal at Suvarnabhumi, at least it will free up some space for other passengers at the existing facility. Just don't get carry away and ask for its own runway.

Thai Air which is just starting to climb out of a few bad years
doesn't need any management diversion from their mishandled core
    business.

Perhaps Khun Sorajak should look at improving Thai's aircraft and bringing them up to date, as many of them are in a sorry state, especially the seats, fittings and age of the aircraft. More management time should be spent on your core business, rather than trying to become an 'Airport Landlord' with your own Terminal and renting out space.
Remember the days when Thai was one of the top Airlines? Now I avoid flying with them if I can help it, due to old and worn aircraft, that don't even have 2nd rate entertainment systems.

There is nothing wrong with this idea. British Airways have their own terminal at Heathrow. Terminal 5

Why do they want their own terminal at the international airport? What they really need to do is to upgrade their existing facilities and help invest in rail connections between the international and domestic airports.

Thai Airways should concentrate on training cabin crew in professional courtesies and manners, updating aircraft fleets with new aircraft and changing the basic arrogant attitude the staff have towards customers. All the terminal space in the world won't help if passenger numbers keep decreasing.
