Holiday road death toll tops 200

The death toll from road accidents has soared to over 200 in the first four days of the "Seven Days of Danger" safety campaign.

The campaign is aimed at reducing traffic accidents in the period between last Thursday and tomorrow, a notoriously dangerous period due to the high number of revellers celebrating the New Year across the country.

As part of the campaign, police have set up checkpoints to deter speeding and drink driving, as well as warned motorists about particularly dangerous stretches of highway.

Sorry Disc.1, it's a laugh yes but I don't think you've read the 'teachers in debt' article yet. Mr. Supaporn's idea is a gem given the nature of the article. A real side-splitter.

Speeding does not cause accidents. Inattention to one's driving causes accidents. Turning left without looking causes accidents. Yes, I know it says 'free left turn' but it's not free if it gets you killed is it? Thailand may have traffic laws but unless they're enforced with fines or confiscation of offender's vehicles nothing will change. Five children and a dog on a scooter with no lights at night driving on the wromg side of the road. I thought I'd seen it all!

The sad thing is all police checks points are in their normal locations..everybody is aware of. And the laugh is the motorbikes and the speeding cars know where to avoid! The Police only keep up the checks for a couple of hours. The danger spots have no police, and either side of the check points the motorbikes travel without crash helmets etc as usual. Even watched pick up truck drivers without insurance or lience get fined and continue on their way, instead of having the truck taken from them until they can provide the legal requirements.
