Muslims urged to steer away from radicalism

Muslims in Thailand must understand their roles in society and the core values of their religion to cope with a changing world and not resort to violence, an international seminar was told.

The seminar, titled "Islamic Studies in Changing World: Challenges and Opportunities"', was organised by the Prince of Songkla University's Pattani campus was attended by more than 700 people including senior officials, Muslim figures and academics from 40 countries.

Umar Ubaid Hasanah, director of the Department of Research and Islamic Studies of Qatar, said the forum offered a healthy exchange of ideas and views about Islam in the modern world.

    Good but, regretably much to late. Muslims have, thru the actions of not just a few but, many,created a place, in the past, present, and, future as a people easily led by the nose into violent acts particularly against the most innocent - women, children,& laymen, not soldiers. Most people I know avoid contact, discuss only in hushed tones,do not patronize nor socialize with any muslims. Personally I wouldn't board a plane, train, bus, or go to places with large numbers of non-muslims purely out of fear.Even so no one is safe as lately they have been slaughtering large numbers of muslims also.

    Seems like pretty sound thinking to me! The moderates need to send the message to the idiot radicals that their actions aren't condoned. Doesn't seem to happen much anywhere, here is as good a place to start as anywhere
