Tarit targets Suthep over police station contracts

Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit on Monday suggested Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban may have tampered with the bidding to build 396 new police stations, most of which have still not been built, at huge cost to the state.

PCC Development and Construction Co (PCC) won the bidding to build 396 new police stations across the country for the Royal Thai Police at a cost of 6.67 billion baht budget during the Democrat-led Abhisit government.

The Royal Thai Police Office finally entered into a contract with PCC on March 25, 2011, and 877 million baht in advance payments had been made to the company.

Confuddiling ! I don't have a clue as to what it was that Thaksin did that was actually illegal except, maybe, using business acumen and shrewdness to get richer but he surely is not worth all this print nor is he reponsible for today's govt. 396,( well acksully about 360 cuz they did build some ), unbuilt stations and hundreds of millions of Baht vaporized and no one can hide that much malfeasance and money without a valid investigation revealing "who done it ".

I'm not surprised you differ with my opinion, but...
    Name me another PM that:

1)used the government to create favorable concessions specifically for his company that increase AIS profits by tems of billions of baht/year
2)used his position to visit Burma and within a week influenced EXIM to loan 5 billion baht to Burma to buy satellites from his company

Both were against the law. That's just a couple of examples.

BRILLIANT D19: I differ with that opinion.

    1) There are other billionaires beside Taksin in the country.

    2) Billions or hundreds of millions make little difference in essence.

    3) Taksin was railroaded through a court operating under a military appointed government.

No I do not defend him and believe he is certainly a scoundrel. He took advantage of laws that exist to help the rich get richer.

And all of that in no way make Suthep less crooked.

So the contract was signed on 25 March, and on 3 July Yingluck became Prime Minister. Yet they blame Suthep for the police stations not being built?

  • Discussion 20 : 22 Jan 2013 at 10.5620

Tarit was not targeting Suthep. DSI acted on a request by Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit, and the investigation on alleged irregularities in the project’s contract indicated the likely involvement of Democrat MP Suthep Thaugsuban, that he might have tampered with the bidding to build 396 new police stations,

abbub - "Dig deep enough and put others under the same microscope as Taksin. There will be no difference."

Wrong, the scale of corruption is 100x worse with Thaksin. We're talking hundreds of billions of baht, not millions.

Well, the Dems have been after the PT led government to clean up corruption. Investigating the police station contracts seem to be a good place to start as any (huge cost and many still not built). With his history going back to the notorious Sor Por Kor 4-01 Land Reform Scheme in 1995, does anyone believe Suthep is Mr. Clean?

For a moment I though this was just a grubby attempt at smearing Dems during an important election. Then I realised Mr Honest aka Prompong and his faithful companion Mr Flexible aka Tarit are only doing their civic duty as good public servants.

    As D7 said : Yawn

WHO IS THARIT? Lets stop commenting on this parrot. Thaksin will not become innocent if Tharit says he is innocent, Suthep and Abhisit will not become guilty if Tharit says that they are guilty. The courts should have the final say, they did that in the case of Thaksin and he ran away like a corward. Suthep and Abhisit will reach the courts too and boldly take the verdicts like true men. Did I say true men? That is something neither the PT nor the reds will understand. It is really lousy to find a 'busy' and 'important' man like Tharit, getting the time to make press statements and accusations, let him save his breath for the courts.
