Crackdown on entertainment venues

Metropolitan Police headquarters is threatening disciplinary action against police who fail to exercise proper control over entertainment venues in areas under their jurisdiction.

The move was prompted by hundreds of complaints sent to the Prime Minister's Office, Royal Thai Police Office and police inspectors-general that many entertainment places were allowed to remain open beyond legal closing time and the noise emanating from them was affecting local residents' livelihoods and health.

Police spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Adul Narongsak said the problem would be tackled in three phases:

Sounds like a set-up to squeeze more pay-offs from the operators.

"Police is corrupt and it's taking massive bribes from entertainment venues. Enough said." So elect one governor.

Glad to see the police are taking this problem very seriously. I suppose noise and late-opening must be far more serious than the other activities that might be taking place in these establishments!!

Sounds like pay cuts across the board!

with this directives, expect more police visibility as they will come to enforce the law against those entertainments. Hope they will also enforce the "No minors inside" .

This new directive in a way, open more doors to SOME police to commit corruptions.... more violations means bigger money to their pockets..just my wild imagination.

As is so often the case, the law has been made up to explicitly encourage and facilitate corruption.

Why must so many Thai laws be created to directly aid and abet corruption?

We know exactly where such policies lead. Might it be time to try policies that could have different outcomes, something other than corruption and waste of police resources for a change?
