Russian hanged by bootlaces

A Russian man was found dead hanging by his bootlaces in a hotel in Pattaya, police said.

Officers from Dong Tan responded to the Dragon Beach Resort when staff reported having found the guest dead in his bathroom.

Alexandre Ivanov, 55, was estimated to have died about three hours earlier after making a loop over the shower railing with a black bootlace.

D #4 post is actually a cleverly worded way to say not all alleged suicides are actually suicides. There is definite sarcasm in proposal to pass such a law that would promulgate social harmony and simultaneously not tarnish the tourism image. I can understand how non native english speakers can miss the intent and dislike post. The native english speakers that disliked have my sympathy. One would expect a higher homicide AND suicide rate in Pattaya given the demographics; criminality, drug/alcohol use and addiction, financial scams and broken hearts.

I'm with pquinlan on this one. And why bootlaces? If you're in jail and have no alternative, then understandable, but was this guy too drunk to go get himself a length of rope?

As to the poster referring to the Utopian ideal of not labeling (putting in boxes) certain nationalities, yes, that would be lovely but completely unrealistic. Different nationalities are er, different purely by dint of their cultural background.

No matter the circumstances of this particular death but the Russian mafia, obviously supported by Thai mafia elements and the organized crime gang a.k.a. the Thai police have been taking over Pattaya for a number of years.Eastern European hookers can be seen on the streets of Pattaya,Phuket and Bangkok every night,in full view of the police, who somehow seem to do nothing.Who knows whether this Russian met with foul play or whether criminal elements were involved but it's time for a big crackdown of the Russians that do come to Thailand.Russia is a Country run by "gangsters",little wonder they set up here where "gangsters" are also in control.

Pattaya, especially, seems to be a place of Ill Omen for Russians. Seems like a lot of very young very beautiful very blonde very blueeyed Russian girl tourists are found, sadly, shot to death in Pattaya every few months.
Perhaps Chiangmai, or some similar destination, would be a better destination for Russian tourists.

ok, here is a thought ... anything that is going divide or separate us in any kind of boxes, drawers, groups, gender, nationalities ... try to substitute it with the word HUMAN ... at least for one day ... or is it really safer and easier otherwise ... ?

It seems to me that foreigners came here to commit siucide. A lot of foreigners reported dead due to suicide. If these are all true, why need to come here to end their life? Very alarming.....

Some of the comments here demonstrate the clear and present need to urgently pass a law making it illegal to suggest any other alternative or any negative criticism of a suicide verdict; the alternative is a grave danger of truths becoming first suspected and then known. And that won't do. Everyone knows that ignorance is bliss and that the best opinions for a healthy, stable society with a clearly defined (good by decree by those who know best) hierarchy is to keep mass opinion benignly worthless whilst hysterically sincere.

Why can't a Russian hang himself by a shoelace, or toilet paper if circumstances require it?
