About 145 Rohingya boat people were found crammed inside a vessel without food or water for 48 hours off Mook island in Trang's Sikao district on Sunday.

The refugees told authorities that they were headed to Malaysia but their food and water had run out before they reached shore. Feeling exhausted and fatigued from hunger, they then decided to float their vessel off Mook island in the hope of being able to ask for food and water from the locals before they would go on, Pol Col Arthit Damsanit, chief of Marine Police Division 9, said.

Of the 145 Rohingya, there were two women and two children, he said.

IMHO, a prior resolution of people fleeing a SEAsian country in leaky overcrowded boats was solved in an orderly fashion with less death and misery by international cooperation and it could work again, if the Islamic countries these Rohingya are trying to reach work together with financial aid from richer countries.
Set up a center on the Myanmar/Bangladesh border, where Rohingya, who want to leave can register and be interviewed, have medical and security checks and travel safely with Red Cross/Crescent assistance to countries that accept them.

This "catch 22", Bangladesh doesn't accept Rohingya from Myanmar because they are "illegal migrants". Myanmar doesn't accept Rohingya. using the same "illegal migrant claim," except for some third and fourth generatition Rohingya families (from Rakhine, Myanmar). Many Rohingya are headed for Malayasia and Indonesia and Thailand doesn't want them either, but it is the closest stop for leaky overcrowded boats, from which the Rohinya can continue overland to their desired destinations.

"The Muslim Rohingya..fleeing violent persecution."

The BBC Radio reported that boatloads of Rohingyas landed in Sri Lanka after being turned away by the Thai navy. Investigations revealed that the boats originated from Bangladesh before making a stop over to take on Ronhingyas.

As the muslim Bangladeshis are not part of the solution, they are likely to be part of the problem. Looks like they are helping the Rohingyas to stir religious intolerance in Myanmar. Have any Rohingyas or Bangladeshis been caught participating in the southern insurgency here?
