Security forces ready for raid and hunt

Evidence from a dead militant prompted marines to prepare for a raid from southern insurgents in the early hours of Wednesday, which led to heavy losses to the attackers, a naval officer said.

Capt Thammanon Wanna, chief of Narathiwat Task Force 32, said security authorities were on alert for a possible large attack after intelligence analysts found a map of the base and other documents on the body of Suhaidee Tahe, a 31-year-old militant killed last Saturday.

Suhaidee was already on the most-wanted list of southern militants, as officials believed he was involved in the notorious murder of school teacher Chonlatee Charoenchon, shot to death in front of students and staff at the Ban Tanyong School canteen in Bacho district, Narathiwat, on Jan 23.

Sympathy and financial support for the families of the slain insurgents? YS and AV don't even think about it anymore, if you do, Thailand will become the laughing stock of the world in the fight against terrorism. Not to say how many more thousand would flock to the south to become militant martyrs for the financial reward for their cause!! Wake up!!

Radical terrorists (militant Muslims) kill indiscriminately. They merit the death penalty and if caught on the battle field should be executed immediately. Rehabilitation is impossible as those who do serve the time for the crime of their coreligionists will go back (as in Mali, Algeria, Pakistan, etc.) to kill again. Radical terrorists from the Islamic jihadists to the VC must be shot on sight.

I believe going on the offensive is good as long as you can maintain it .Big rewards for leaders dead or alive will put the pressure on the insurgents .

Good that the military has gone after them but sad that they are killing their own people.

16 dead, how many wounded and captured for interrogation? There should have been many wounded given that they were wearing bulletproof vests to protect their vitals, unless most all the deaths were from the explosives mentioned, which might have been claymore mines?

    Reap as ye shall sow.

I'm sorry, but it's just not possible to feel any sympathy at all for the militant insurgents who lost their lives, their hearts were filled with hatred and murderous intent ...

They, and their compatriots, have killed so many innocent people in the cowardly way that terrorists do, and their mission early Wednesday morning was to kill as many as possible and take hostages whose ultimate fate would have been terrible.

They thought they'd find sleeping Marines who would have supposedly been an easy target ... well, they surely got what they deserved !!!

To quote the bible: "reap as ye shall sow"

The hearts of these militant insurgents are filled with hatred and a passion to murder innocent people [look at the callous + cowardly way they've murdered innocent teachers, often in front of young students.

The particular group that descended upon the military base early Wednesday morning thought they'd find easy victims, supposedly asleep, and their intention would certainly have been to kill as many as possible and take others hostage

Imagine the fate of such hostages, it would have ultimately been cruel + no doubt public [videos of executions].

They so deserve what they got!

    D10 Kun Nitnoi
According to the news I think soldiers got tip from local people so that they escape casualty; this is the best kind of intelligent. If government could get into the heart of local people whatever mean necessary is better than kill them all(women and children included)and make the fighting easily won. I believe this area is Thailand and people who died were Thai too.

Nitnoi #10 is right. Pay the family of a terrorist. Are you kidding?

"Officials also showed sympathy for families of the dead insurgents, and the prime minister promised financial help for them".

    Whose side is she on?
