Eat more veggies, Thais told

Fewer than 20% of Thai people eat enough fruit and vegetables to ensure good health and reduce their risk of disease, say health officials.

Thai people need to recognise the importance of a balanced daily intake of foods to avoid diseases resulting from poor nutrition, said Pradit Sintawanarong, Minister of Public Health and vice-chairman of the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (THPF).

Dr Pradit said that around 400,000 deaths per year in Thailand could be linked to conditions resulting from poor nutrition, from heart disease to diabetes.

The Thai government should advice the people not to eat vegetables and fruits instead as these supposedly healthy diets are no longer safe to eat because of the excessive use of chemicals and pesticides. Maybe that could be the main reason why Thai people eat less fruits and vegetables now a days.

"up to 40% of fruits and vegetables available in the market contained some chemical residue". Chemical residue? Chemical residue meaning pesticides, i.e poison.

The irony is people used to eat more fruit and vegetables but are now hooked on sweetened milk ,soda ,and processed food which is all bad for you .I agree with renaissance about pesticides and herbicides .The companies selling it are making a fortune .Now farmers have higher costs for more contaminated product and now are encouraged to buy GM seed .Farmers had it right in the beginning .

If the politicians really cared about the people they are paid to serve, they would phase out the use of chemical fertilizers and sprays, and encourage 100% organic farming. But the lucrative fertilizer networks are under their control, so this is very unlikely.
