The Democrats on Sunday pressured the government to move more quickly in drawing up an emergency operation plan to thwart a nationwide power shortage in April, when Myanmar starts its annual maintenance on gas platforms.

Democrat Party deputy leader Alongkorn Ponlabutr said demand for electricity use peaked during April every year, especially on April 4. The demand is expected to reach 26,500 MW this year, meaning the country’s power reserves would be only 2 percent.

Disc 4, Mr.T......I fully agree with you that Thailand should be considering Nuclear power plants. The biggest holdback would be the initial construction and installation cost. The resulting energy output costs are a fraction compared to that of any fossil fuel fired plant.
In comparison to the oil, gas and coal industries, nuclear accidents are very small in numbers, but you hear about them more due to the sensationalism of the press.
Nuclear plants are the same as any other when operated correctly. Safe.

the solution is simple, and the gov't needs do nothing, if all ACs were simply reset to 26 or 27 degrees, the power consumption would go down dramatrically

Shut down MBK, Siam Paragon, Central World and a few other malls for a couple of days - problem solved. At least for the moment. If anyone cared for a long term plan: Google "insulation".

Maybe Thailand finally could try to SAVE energy, in stead of wasting energy all the time. The newly build condo's, houses, building are still about like cardboard boxes, with in every room an aircon. No thermal insulation, nothing at all to save energy. I am waiting to see what will happen when a barrel of oil will cost 300 US dollars, and prices for fuel will go over 100 Bath/litre.

Good that it's a holiday on April so studenst will not suffer the brunt of power shortage.

It looks like Thai is dependent to Myanmar as far as energy is concern
