Abhisit in favour of government-Pulo talks

Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Monday encouraged the government to accept the Pattani United Liberation Organisation's proposal for talks on ending southern unrest, but 4th Army commander Udomchai Thammasaroraj said the separatist group really does not have a key role in the far South.

"If there are to be talks, the government needs to show that it is trustworthy and its agenda must be clearly defined," Mr Abhisit said on Monday.

The Democrat Party leader said the previous government, when he was prime minister, had held talks with members of Pulo, but the situation had not improved.

AV gave his thoughts when questioned, which must be applauded. Let's not worry about what his government didn't do to quell the problems of the south, let's not continue to discuss what Thaksin did in the past, let's see what this government (all parties) can do to move forward. Any discussions with these "insurgents" shoud be conducted between a full goverment committee (yes, all parties involved) and the leaders of the southern factions. This way with full involvement, everybody is then committed to strike an agreed settlement.

Abhisit should go for visit South Thailand more often because he said he can solve the problem there. and he like to talk, so should go there to talk to people.

Eric 30 years ago AV was at school in England - your endless stream of negative rubbish adds nothing positive whatsoever

    Discussion 2 :

"AV knows little about the southern separatist situation as he had never really served in the military before."

And the current crop of 1600 generals do?????

To resolve the issue of the South then negotiations will need to be held. Even if PULO are the first step, then surely one step will lead to the next. Even if Lt-Gen Udomchai doesn't classify PULO as the major problem, he must surely think that they may hold the link to the insurgents. Again, I believe that the Thai Military/Police/Government think themselves as experienced and knowledgable on these issues of insurgency and terrorist threat. How short sighted and foolish. It takes two sides to talk. Open your Eyes....these insurgents will not slip away, lower your foolish pride and listen to them, but do not back down to them. TALK!!

AV, the draft dodging chief of NATO (no action, talk only) has the audacity to give advice when in 2009, PULO’s head issued a statement to the media “While I do still appreciate Abhisit's flowery promises of justice, his government has clearly failed to deliver.”

Under the capable leadership of AV, the Dem party has turned into a neighborhood old ladies’ gossip club - where the club motto reads “Do what I tell you to do, but don’t do what I do”.

Let's hope Ahbisit will be more helpful and sincere in helping to solve the Southern unrest. Throwing a dead lead where his government has no success is really not being sincerely helpful. Ahbisit is 30 years late in suggesting talks with PULO.

The fugitive kick-started the war in the South by killing innocent Thais at Tak Bai and Krue Se. Naturally all Southern Thais hate him and his Puea Thaksin dictatorship will never be able to stop the violence.
