A parliamentary anti-corruption panel has grilled House Speaker Somsak Kiatsuranont over the "needless" appointment of specialists and the setting up of numerous committees, some of which duplicate the role of existing panels.
Democrat MP for Bangkok Wilas Chanpitak, adviser to the House committee on corruption prevention and suppression, yesterday said the House panel recently found that Mr Somsak had signed an order appointing former parliamentary officials as House specialists in five fields - economic, social, political, legal and foreign affairs.
Each specialist received a monthly salary of 50,000 baht. These appointments were unnecessary as they were duplicating the duties of 10 existing House advisers, Mr Wilas said.
