Lobby group Green Move Thailand has postponed plans to walk to Government House in protest against the Mae Wong dam.It had planned to hand a petition against the project to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Saturday, but says it has now put off the move.
Smith Tungkasmit, the group's leader, said yesterday more than 100,000 people have signed a petition against the proposed dam in Mae Wong National Park in Nakhon Sawan province.
Citing what he termed an "unfriendly" political atmosphere, he said handing the protest letter to the prime minister now will not help the group's campaign.
Green Move Thailand does not want to be regarded as an anti-government group. It has decided to postpone the petition until the political situation returns to normal, he said.
The petition will also be handed to the United Nations, he said.
