UDD demands criminal amnesty law

The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Tuesday demanded an executive decree be issued granting amnesty to those accused of criminal offences in connection with political conflicts between Jan 1, 2007-Dec 31, 2011.

The draft executive decree proposed by the UDD provides for amnesty for those who have been sentenced to a jail term and whose cases are final and those whose cases are still in  the courtsl.

The amnesty, however, would not cover people with decision-making power or those who gave orders for political activities during that period.

airborne 21 - I only clarified that the amnesty would apply to non-red shirt persons, given the specified date period. I offered no opinion of whether those charged with crimes for those events are innocent or not, or whether I agreed/disagreed with the proposed amnesty plan.

Looks like a case of out of sight out of mind to me!
They are shouting and screeming at the government but they refuse to listen to them.
They have served their use recieved their payment now they should be quiet!

Discussion 14: facts_only please attach a link to photos of the airport being burned and looted.

The have been numerous demonstrations around the world where citizens came to a public building and had a non-violent sit-in to gain publicity for there cause. Some of the differences: red shirts took over private property, then after being offered much of what they wanted (remember that democracy is based on compromise) they initiated a government assault to remove demonstrators, burned and looted private property. PAD occupied and trashed government house where nothing serious happens anyway.

I personally don't think these people are qualified to govern/voting to power doesn't make you a qualified leader . They have never done anything positive for rural Thai's - It's one jokey/shaky government i have ever known

I think that Thida is just trying to make herself look like she is still the leader of the Red Shirts as many have have forgotten. She knows that she can't get what she wants because all Hell would break loose if amnesty was granted as she wishes, and this would prevent Thaksin returning to his former home. Surely Thida is clever enough to know that this is all about Thaksin getting back home. He has no interest in the well-being and freedom of the Red Shirts whom he has always been using as part of his strategy to get home.

    .

The amnasty could goes in a way of quid-pro-quo, those currently in jail can go free, while Ms.Thida, Nai Kangkok, Nai collapse-cafe Joker, Nai Korgay will take their places instead.

People who dont break the law dont require special amnesty laws to bail them out of their mess .The law is to protect society from people like this .

englishbob 6, "Jan 2007-Dec 2011? Oh the period that covers Red shirt crimes, but no others?"
The PAD parliament riot, the airport takeover, Government House takeover and several other less prominent events that involved the multi-colors, blue shirts, and PAD all occurred during this time period.
