Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen was officially unveiled as the ruling Pheu Thai Party's candidate for the Bangkok governor race amid accusations that he stole a radio while in the US.

Pol Gen Pongsapat arrived Tuesday at Pheu Thai headquarters to apply for party membership. About 100 waiting supporters handed him baskets of roses.

I agree 100% with WATCHDOG D18 (the most rational comment here)

The flow of information is the biggest threat to those in power today, whcih is why they are fighting constantly to try to limit access to the internet.

That be be more of a threat to people at the top of the pyramid in Thailand but it is everywhere in the world now.

This is why the free and quick flow of information is so threatening to Thai elites of any color. Try as they may to restrict information with laws such as the Cyber-Crimes Act and easily criminalization of defamation claims, the internet and social media are unstopplable game-changers.I doubt we would have heard about this 15 years ago. I agree that this makes live very difficult for the hi-sos, elites and authorities of any color, but whine as they may, there is no stopping it. Let the information flow.

Hi streetgecko #16 - He is not hit by the 'mud' yet. He said "... he is ready to explain himself if required and is not worried about the matter." May be the oppositions can try harder and keep slinging mud.

A politician makes policies, but it is his administrative team that implements them, look at the team not the person. As to theft, when I was a teenage student I several times stole technical books that I could not afford, it did not stop me from becoming a respectable citizen as an adult.

For all candidates success means making more money. For me it would be making Bangkok cleaner, friendlier for pedestrians, more green car free walking areas, break down all eye-soaring billboards, advertisement poles and useless street furniture like telephone booths, put electrical and telephone wires underground, more underground transport instead of that ugly space blocking sky-train system. Bangkok needs long term city planning where people come first!... If all candidates want more ideas, they can call me... Its not about making more money for the city (and themselves), but putting a relentless effort to it.

Let's be real, he didn't steal anything, hi-so's are allowed to take whatever they want.

But, I am pleased he has visions on unimaginable changes, he must have a vision of cleaning up the street vendors, stopping the cigarette police and bringing an end to police corruption at entertainment venues. But, if he does that where will he get his required tribute for the boss?

The media cleverly used the Election Commission to ask a question whether he will be investigated on a claim that he was once convicted of stealing a radio while he was in the US.
Pongsapat who has said he will not engage in any mudslinging against rival candidates calmly responded that he is ready to explain himself if required and is not worried about the matter.

What a great choice the people of Bangkok have, the incumbent incompetent, the copper with visions from Yingluck and Sudarat. An absolute joke, there must be somebody who can do the job
