Abhisit shrugs off threat of Dem isolation

The Democrats are not feeling any pressure after a secret meeting was held between the red- and the yellow-shirt camps on the amnesty issue, party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said yesterday.

Mr Abhisit said he did not think the talks held on Thursday between key leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) would result in his party becoming politically isolated.

The closed-door meeting, organised by deputy House speaker Charoen Chankomol, was attended by UDD co-leader and Pheu Thai party list MP Korkaew Pikulthong and PAD spokesman Parnthep Pourpongpan.

If you watch Democrats Bluesky TV Channel and watch every Saturday the Democrats rallies in one of the provinces, which is going on for more than one year now, then you know, that the democrats are not on the road of decay or isolated and that the party always supported an amnesty bill. The Democrats have more supporters now than before. The problem in this forum is, that many read only BP or The Nation, because they don't understand Thai.

There is no threat of the Democrats being isolated, it's a reality and as usual the party is in denial.

Yes, meme D5, I'm sure an honorable man like Khun Abhisit will stand up for justice even more... right after his "draft dodging" and "murder charges" investigations have run their course.

Dis 4 bangmodker : it is only now that AV says the dems are not opposing the amnesty. You need to read the BP news articles on related subject in the past months.

Good that our Kingdom still have a few honorable men like Khun Abhisit standing up for justice.

D2 : You didn't read the article before writing your comment?

"Mr Abhisit said the Democrats were still in the game as the party had never opposed efforts to ask for an amnesty".

"But the pardon should be given to rallygoers who staged peaceful protests and were prosecuted under the emergency decree," he said.

Why should people who committed incitement, arson, violence and murder be included? They're just criminals who should be locked up for good.

".......Our stance is not different from the PAD," Mr Abhisit said"

Acknowledging that isolating such a quote from the above article may be considered to be out of context, it speaks volumes just the same, in other areas. As with that story today about the PAD idiocy at the border, trying to incite a non-existing issue, there is no daylight between PAD-Abhisit-Dem's linkages. I understand there is a clip around, showing when the PADites were messing around at the border, they were in direct contact with Abhisit..It does beg the question however, "who was behind Abhisit"

  • Discussion 2 : 11 Feb 2013 at 09.302

It is wise for PADs to leave the Dems alone on the amnesty bill issue, as dems keep on objecting the bill blindly for nothing.

After AV took over the leadership of DP, he led the party on the road of decay, irrelevant and redundancy.
