Yingluck accused in election petition

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has been accused of abuse of authority in helping Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, the Pheu Thai candidate, campaign in the lead-up to the March 3 Bangkok governor election, Bangkok election committee chairman Taweesak Tuchinda said.

The accusation was made in a petition filed by Suriyasai Katasila, a core member of the Green Group.

The petition said Ms Yingluck helped Pol Gen Pongsapat campaign at the 1st Infantry Regiment, where she was greeted by high-ranking army officers.

Pol Lt-Gen Taweesak said the Bangkok election committee agreed at its meeting today to accept Mr Suriyasai's petition for investigation.

The Bangkok EC also accepted another petition filed by former senator Ruangkrai Leekijwattana accusing core members of the Democrat Party of helping MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra campaign in violation of Section 57 (5) of the Local Election Act.

The committee would examine the two petitions quickly and hoped to forward the results to the Election Commission by April 2.

If the investigation was not finished by then, the Bangkok EC could seek two extensions of 15 days each, he said.

ricefield@10. You’d missed my salient point: “What’s wrong or illegal for senior members of the party for helping the candidates they support / canvass for votes”. This point was made to include PM YL’s case, although as a PM of the country, she is subject to a higher level of standards / ethics. It’s always wise to keep these senior government officials under strict scrutiny, honest and on their toes. “I was born in the pursuit of knowledge, never fearing to follow the truth and reason to whatever results they led, and bearding every authority which stood in their way”. – Thomas Jefferson

Great. Yellow cards to both Sukhumbhand and Pongsapat, and so Bangkokians can now have a cleaner and fairer by-election.

Disc. # 9 (Ricefield) "...... Having never run a candidate in a party that couldn't win against itself in an election held in the lobby of ASTV..."

    LOL

Disc 8 - Sir you really need to check into who was the one to bring petitions against two elected PMs that eventually brought down the PPP government.

You think the senator has a vendetta against the Democrats but didn't notice that Suriyasai who is truly agenda driven lodged one against the PTP for the same thing. Truly amazing reasoning skills you have.

New Politics Party Secretary-General and PAD spokesperson Suriyasai is at it again. Having never run a candidate in a party that couldn't win against itself in an election held in the lobby of ASTV they are complaining again about an elected PM. Now there's a politician with no agenda.

For some reasons, that ex-senator must had a vendetta against the Democratic Party or he's under TS’s payroll. Never fails to attack DP at every given opportunity. What’s wrong or illegal for senior members of the party for helping the candidates they support / canvass for votes; it’s a normal practice in many democratic countries. Thailand’s has many peculiar rules and regulations which, for all intents and purposes, were never strictly enforced / applied because these rules also comes with many loop holes which only the rich and well connected benefited while the rank and files have to abide by these rulings.

IMHO Yingluck is guilty. And even if she is not guilty in this case she should be removed as PM because she is the clone of the convicted criminal fugitive who is guilty. If he does not come back to go to jail arrest his clone instead!

If politicians and their backers spent as much time and effort doing their jobs instead of working at quibbling over each other's actions, this or any Thai government would be more productive improving Thailand's reputation and the livelihoods of the Thai people.
