The armed robbery at a 7-11 store in Don Muang district early Monday, in which two gunmen wore Guy Fawkes masks, was unlikely to be politically motivated, police said Tuesday.
“The robbery may have been a coincidence,” said Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy chief Manit Wongsomboon. The robbers wore the popular Guy Fawkes masks displayed by the opposition "V for Thailand" protest group, which has staged anti-government rallies in Bangkok and major cities over the past few weeks.
The group said it believe the heist was a setup by politicians or supporters of what they call the “Thaksin regime”. The robbery occurred the day after protests by the white mask movement, and six days before the next scheduled demonstrations across the country.
