A group of 50 militants approached a marine base in Narathiwat's Bacho district early Wednesday to launch a surprise attack, unaware that they were entering a death zone.

Narathiwat Task Force 32 knew in advance of the planned attack on their base. Fifty marines led by Cdr Thammanoon Wanna, the task force commander, were poised for action.

DonDuck (Discussion 35), if you read Arabic or Farsi I will happily provide you with over 1000 sources detailing how Mulsims finance and otherwise support al-Quida, as did the Royal House of Saud that financed Osama bin Laden (his family have been friends with the Bush family of Texas for over 40 years and built the Binladen airport outside of San Antonio) and his Saudi pilots who deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. You attack without proof as those who disagree with have their proof and all of it is on the internet and in the books I write. Your bias has no place in a discussion that is objective and fact base

D#38 Acid throwing has been a preferred choice of weapon on women for a long time, particularly in Muslim countries.The Taliban are very active in stopping girls from going to school (shot 1 girl in Pakistan). In Thailand they burn down schools and kill teachers to stop education. Not sure D#38 if you are a supporter of these terrorists. The damage they do is irrefutable.

A "terrorist" is a person who causes terror and uses any means to stifle dissent. An "insurgent" is any person who rises up (voice or fist) to demand justice. The Muslim extremists (Islam jihadists) are not protesting for justice but demanding massive conversions to their faith--this is terrorism as they throw acid in the face of young girls seeking an education, conscript unwilling boys into their ranks to use as human suicide machines, and claim that by dying in a Islamic battle the Muslims go to a paradise with 72 virgins (in Arabic the word actually is "grapes"). Execute the radical Muslims and help educate the moderate ones.

The Kingdom of Pattani existed from: Historical era: Middle Ages.(Islamic) Kingdom: Established 1516 until Annexation by Siamese - 1902. The British signed a treaty in 1909 that confirmed the borders as they stood. There are hundreds of historical sources to validate this. R1 won a minor victory in 1785, but it didn't last - the Kingdom paid tributes at various times, but always retained its independence until 1902. F Jack Sprat. F.

There have been 5,000 innocent people killed in the south to date. Where was this Elite Team all this time? Seems too little to late and only 16 killed will inflame terrorist to cause more innocent death.
