The Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) separatist movement has demanded that the Thai military withdraw troops from other regions deployed in the three southernmost provinces during the fasting month of Ramadan.
The demand was made in a five-minute video posted on YouTube on Monday by Hassan Taib, BRN peace talks representative. He said the BRN agreed to stop its own military operations during Ramadan, as promised to the Thai negotiating team during the June 13 peace talks in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
However, he said that their ceasefire would be conditional on the Thai government withdrawing troops deployed to the far South from Army Regions 1, 2 and 3 from Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and five districts of Songkhla.
