Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung on Tuesday brushed aside the new peace demands and conditions set by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) separatist movement, particularly the call for withdrawal of troops and police deployed to the far South.
It is not necessary that the government respond to all demands made by the BRN, Mr Chalerm said. Most local people in the three southernmost provinces also disagreed with such demands.
The BRN had the right to make demands, but whether or not to comply with them rests with the Thai government, he added.
